The Art Of Slow Living : What Turning 30 Does To You.

In a world that constantly asks us to move faster, do more, and chase the next thing, I have found myself drawn to the opposite.

As I approach thirty, I feel a quiet shift happening in my life.

There is a calmness that comes with growing older. A deeper understanding of what truly matters and, perhaps more importantly, what does not.

In my early twenties, life often felt louder. There were expectations, social obligations, and the subtle pressure to keep up with everyone else. I cared more about what people thought, about being present everywhere, about saying yes even when my spirit quietly wanted to say no.

But something changes as you grow.

You begin to understand that peace is far more valuable than chaos.

Slow living, for me, is not about doing less. My life is still full. I am a mother to two boys, an interior designer, and an entrepreneur building Bleu Interiors and Bleu Café. My days are filled with school runs, client meetings, cooking meals for my family, and designing homes for other families to grow in.

Yet even in a full life, there is space to move gently.

Slow living begins with intention.

It is waking up before the house fully comes alive and enjoying the quiet of the morning. It is making coffee slowly rather than rushing through the start of the day. It is sitting beside my children while they tell me stories about the smallest things that feel enormous to them.

Some of my favourite moments are the simplest ones.

Reading a book and sipping coffee from Bleu, Cooking dinner while the boys play nearby.
Setting the table thoughtfully.
Watching them ride their horses on quiet weekends.
Walking through a home I have designed and imagining the life that will unfold inside those walls.

These moments may seem ordinary, but they carry a quiet beauty.

Turning thirty has made me realize that not every invitation needs to be accepted, not every room needs my presence, and not every opinion deserves my energy.

There is a kind of freedom that comes from caring less about noise and more about what nurtures your life.

Slow living has become my way of protecting that peace.

It means choosing meaningful work, but also choosing rest. It means building businesses I am proud of while still making time to cook for the people I love. It means creating a home where my children feel warmth, safety, and calm.

Motherhood has taught me perhaps the most important lesson of all.

Children move through the world slowly. They notice things adults often rush past — the colour of the sky at sunset, the smell of food cooking in the kitchen, the excitement of riding a horse on a quiet afternoon.

Being around them reminds me constantly to slow down and pay attention.

Life is not something to rush through.

It is something to experience fully.

As I step into my thirties, I find myself caring less about chaos and more about clarity. Less about proving anything to the world and more about building a life that feels warm, intentional, and deeply my own.

A life filled with family, meaningful work, beautiful homes, good food, and quiet moments of gratitude.

Because sometimes the most beautiful parts of life are the ones that unfold slowly.

Turning 30 this year. I resonate with this so much. This spans to my work as well. I find myself not needing the need to be validated. I do my work and I am okay. Accolades or not, as far as my conscience is clear. Also, the desire to reach out to family often. I guess some things really do come with age. Thank you Ummeeta. May our 30s be beautiful.
